Today's excerpt is from Rose of Crimson the part where Miles/Matthias remembers how he became immortal.

What the hell, one more drink wouldn’t hurt him or wake up the beast inside him. He reached for the bottle and poured half the shot this time, to be safe. He returned to the sofa, twirling the snifter nestled between his fingers. The swirling golden liquid awakened a deep buried memory.
His father’s chamber had reeked of liquor and something else. Blood permeated the putrid, heavy air. Step by slow step, his feet carried him inside the large room. The woman Father brought home as his new wife and her wretched daughter feasted on the master’s veins. Miles’ breath hitched. His step-sister tore her fangs from his father’s flesh and glared at him at the foot of the bed, drops of thick crimson racing down her chin. Her demonic, blood laced eyes sent ice through him.
Run! An urgent female voice rang in his head. He forced his frozen legs into action and bolted out of the bedroom. He ran into his room. His heart pounded in his ears. Her blood stained hand grabbed the door before he could slam it shut. Scrawny as he was, he pushed his body against the door, to no avail. The bitch was strong and pushed the door off its hinges, sending him to his rump. He crawled backward on his behind. Her sinister laughter rang in his ears, curdling his blood. His back hit the wall. Her fangs elongated as she neared him. Fear rendered him frozen. The bite to his neck came fast and paralyzed him. Darkness closed in on him. The world was slipping away. He was dying.
Bright light erupted in the room. The vampire girl burst into flames. A female’s form emerged from the blinding illumination and held his half dead body, humming to him until he took his last breath.
For days or weeks, perhaps, he had drifted in and out of consciousness. Servants whispered while bustling around his bed, changed sheets and sponged sweat off his body. Then he heard her song and forced his shaky legs to take him to the window. A young peasant girl sat on the stone steps of the storage house, rocking a rag doll in her arms. At a man’s harsh call, she ceased her song and snapped her head in his direction. He called her Kate and told her to quit daydreaming and help unload their cart.
Matthias smiled. His stare still on the swirling liquid in the snifter. So long ago, her song had lured him out of bed. Their friendship bloomed over time. The beastly presence in him had not awakened until the day he caved in to his desire for her, and her willingness to please him confirmed she wanted him too. She pulled him from the brink of the death, eased his loneliness and pain over his and Emina’s forced separation. Life had its strange ways, presenting him with a chance to love her as he should’ve loved her centuries ago.

BLURB
KATE ROKOV‘s grades are plummeting. She needs to get the voice out of her head or she will flunk her finals.
MATTHIAS ZRIN, a three centuries old immortal, born into an aristocratic family as Miles Rušinić, is enthralled with Kate. It is his voice preventing Kate from sleeping and her ignorance is testing his limits. He wants her to write down his story to settle his wife’s earthbound spirit. His tragic love story has become Kate’s obsession since fifth grade during her summer trip to Rušinić castle.
Their coming together settles the old spirit and breaks an ancient curse, and in doing so, a flame spanning over three centuries reignites and burns with wild desire. In this tale of two life times and desire versus emotional need, both know some dreams will have to wait for the right time, but the magic between them is impossible to withstand.
